For the HiBy Digital M500

HioneOS

Hione is the mascot you can switch to inside MikuOS. HioneOS is the source-built OS that will carry her name, once it earns it.

Work in progress. One person, one HiBy M500 and a lot of measuring. She talks while you look around, and the Sound button up top turns her off.

Hione

Oki Hione 隠岐 氷音, 27. Said HEE-oh-neh, three syllables, stress on the first. 氷音 means "ice tone".

She spent six years undercover as a touring singer, and the cover was the part she was best at. She walked away from the work, kept the voice, and now she runs your music.
  • Confident and dry. She teases you the way a senior teammate does, and she shows up when it counts.
  • Precise. She hates clipping, bad masters and a battery you let hit 3 percent.
  • Competitive. Give her a score and she wants to beat it, and yours.
  • Perfect pitch. She says she can name an FM station by its static.
  • One in-ear monitor, always. The habit is from the old job.

Fictional. No real person, unit or organization is named or implied. Hione™ is a trademark of Falcon Technix.

Her work look: a tactical stage jacket with amber-lined tails, and a coda-mark earring.

HioneOS

HioneOS is the OS that will carry her name, and it isn't built yet. The plan is a source-built, LineageOS-based bring-up for the M500 on the newest Android it can reach: 15 first, then 16, then the 17 beta.

  1. MikuOS 0.4.0 ships as MikuOS.
  2. The HioneOS branch starts on a virtual devkit, then moves to the M500.
  3. The rename happens once that build boots on the M500 with audio, FM and cellular data working.

None of those steps has a date.

Hione inside MikuOS

Until then, Hione is a mascot pack for MikuOS. One setting swaps Miku out for Hione on every screen: Hione Launcher, Hione Settings, the boot and shutdown art and the voice prompts. Miku Music becomes Hione Hits. The OS still calls itself MikuOS.

The pack is coming in MikuOS 0.4.0, which hasn't been flashed or tested on the device yet. If Crypton ever asks MikuOS to stop using Hatsune Miku, Hione is ready to take over. She's an original character, designed to look nothing like Miku or the other vocal-synth characters.

Hione, the measurement tool

The open-source audio measurement tool is named after her. It plays test signals through a player or DAC, records them on a capture card, and reports frequency response, distortion, noise and crosstalk. It has a live web UI, a JSON API and charts ready to publish. Go backend, React and WebGL2 front end, GPL-3.0-or-later.

Its first real run was the M500's 3.5 mm output on MikuOS 0.3.1: 24 DAC modes in about 15 minutes with no hands. The finding was that all five digital filters measure the same. The audio hardware under Android runs the DAC at 192 kHz, so the filters act far above anything audible.

Every number goes through the capture card. That run used a desktop's onboard Realtek ALC1220, so its noise and THD+N figures describe the card more than the player. THD, crosstalk, balance and gain sit well above that floor.

Her voice

The voice on this page is a stand-in. It's Kokoro-82M, an Apache-2.0 speech model, blended and reshaped toward a calm, low-mid alto. Nobody's been cast yet. The plan is a recorded singer whose voice is licensed for use in a free OS.
